Why accessibility matters

I learned about digital accessibility in 2018 but truly understood its impact in 2023 when Guillain-Barré and Miller Fisher overlap syndrome left me temporarily paralyzed. I recovered in three months, but in 2025, a Polymyositis diagnosis made my daily life challenging again. Since then, I decided to make accessibility as my mission.

My journey as a designer

I’ve been a designer since 2011, creating digital experiences for both local and global brands across various industries. Currently, I lead the Design Department at Good Doctor. Before that, I worked at IBM, Gojek, Traveloka, and Halodoc. Beyond the tech industry, I’ve also contributed my expertise to organizations like the Ministry of Education, UNICEF, ChildFund, Suarise, and GGGI.

Some recommendations

  • Daron (IBM)

Rifat is a gifted designer with a rare combination of experience design & technical development skills.

  • Maudy (Gojek)

The way he handles conflict and solving a problem is very mature in which makes me respect him a lot as a person. He also a very humble and fun person to work with.

  • Remi (Traveloka)

Rifat can also be pragmatic, see opportunities beyond the current limitation. He often offers solution that is not often practiced. It has some risks, but he calculated it well.

Building for fun (and growth)

As a designer, I believe growth doesn't only happen at work. Pet projects are my way of learning new things, experimenting with ideas, and building without boundaries. Here are some of my pet projects.

The world belongs to the curious

I believe that being curious is what keeps me growing. Over the years, I’ve picked up certifications from the Interaction Design Foundation, IBM , Google, and a few other places. For me, learning is about knowing that there’s always more to discover.

Giving back to the community

Making a difference starts with giving back. From pioneering youth movements to championing digital accessibility, I’ve always believed that sharing knowledge and working together can break barriers and create a more inclusive world.

Sharing is Caring

I believe knowledge grows when it’s shared. I’ve had the privilege of speaking, mentoring, and leading discussions on accessibility, UI/UX, design leadership, and design in general.

Advocating for accessibility

Over the past five years, I’ve shared my insights on accessibility in various settings, from one-on-one discussions to larger group sessions. Recently, I joined Suarise to co-lead A11yID, a community focused on advancing digital accessibility in Indonesia. I’m open to speaking engagements, training sessions, and workshops.
